WELCOME TO PEWS TO STREETS The congregations of our Churches have watched the steady spiritual and social decline of inner-city areas over the last several years. Drug-related street crime and substance abuse appear to be at the heart of the community indifference that is evident. Dealers of drugs and human indignity abound in just about every block and willfully denigrate the community’s standards of respect and decency. In conjunction with the Turning Point II Drug/Alcohol Outpatient, a licensed treatment program, the Churches are aggressively implementing new methods to educate the community about drug, alcohol and gambling addictions. The Congregations have a vested interest to provide a faithful witness as caring Christians and members of the Washington Community. Our project, “From Pews to Streets”, is designed to reach out and actively engage families and their children and mentor them to be the instruments of change the neighborhoods so urgently need. We believe that their renewed stewardship of their community can stem the rampant moral and spiritual decline. Our role through this outreach effort is one of spiritual guidance and education…the tools for rebuilding neighborhood moral fabric and saving the soul of the community. |
